Our farm and its surroundings

The farm and gardens

Between April and October you can have a leisurely dip in our 4m heated indoor pool or turn on its resistance swimming machine for practicing those endless lengths. The pool is situated in one of our historic barns and has comfy seating and a table, so you can wind down after a dip or watch others. Dogs are allowed in the pool barn.

As well as the cottage gardens there is a large communal outdoor terrace beautifully landscaped with raised flower beds, a large rill water feature and a gazebo for you to sit and relax in. There are more far-reaching views and watch our doves come and go to their cote.

Take a short stroll on the farm to our private woodland walk alongside a babbling brook to two areas with wooden benches where you can stop to take in the woodland and its views, or picnic in seclusion.

Sunsets at Upper Bettws are particularly stunning, and we have BBQs you can use for a sundowner feast to make the most of them.

We also have two onsite stables and grazing which means you can invite your horse/s on holiday too. We have miles of hacking accessible from the farm for you to enjoy. Please phone to discuss this option, your requirements and costs.

Landscaped communal gardens

Had a lovely break in a beautiful spot, thank you. Cosy and comfortable cottage and loved exploring the local area. Enjoyed taking our 7 month old to the pool and walking around the beautiful grounds.

Everything was perfect. Beautiful views, a cottage with character, nice pool and incredible silence. We all enjoyed everything and we are very grateful to Bronwen and Paul for their kindness and warmth. This is the dream.

The surrounding area

The farm is handy for numerous visitor attractions in the local area which are within an easy drive on quiet roads.

Why not bring your walking boots and the dog and head out from the farm on to the stunning Sugar Loaf or Bryn Arw Mountains. The summits are manageable and a must with views up to the Brecon Beacons, the Cotswolds and the Bristol Channel. There are lots of other walks of varying difficulty directly from the farm and Offa's Dyke Path is a mile away.

This is an excellent base to explore the Black Mountains and all the too numerous to mention attractions of our Brecon Beacons National Park (also now known as Bannau Brycheniog). Hop in the car for 20 minutes and take on the iconic Brecon Beacons Peaks or the Waterfall District – you can even walk behind the falling water on one of the many falls.

Enjoy hang gliding, caving, rock climbing, canoeing, fishing or sailing on Llangorse, South Wales’s biggest natural lake.

The national cycle path passes close to the farm and you can hire a bike in Abergavenny to explore this or the towpath of the beautiful Monmouth and Brecon Canal. There are also trails for mountain biking.

Bring a horse and enjoy miles of rides straight from the farm or perhaps pony trek from the various stables close by.

You may prefer to take in the wonderful scenery from one of the trains on the Brecon Mountain Railway as it puffs its way up into the mountains or go underground in the Dan-yr-Ogof National Show Caves.

Don't miss Big Pit World Heritage Site just over the hill towards Blaenavon, and the lovely isolated Llanthony Priory with its own little pub built into the ruins close by. Also, nearby historic sites at Tretower Castle, and Patrishow Church with its ancient wall paintings are well worth a visit.

A little further afield you’ll find Cardiff with its wonderfully exciting Waterfront area, great shopping and world famous Folk Museum.

If you feel like a day at the beach then take in the fabulous Glamorgan Heritage Coast , around an hour or so drive away.

One thing we are absolutely sure of is how lucky we are to be living in this special place which we love to share with our guests.
